Joint ActivitiesThe two Companies each follow their own programmes based on the practice of the National Brigades on their Tuesday and Friday meetings. But they co-operate to arrange joint activities, particularly larger events. From time to time we have held joint socials for members and their families, often with some entertainment and including presentation of the year's awards. SleepoversWe have weekends ("Houseparties") at the Church for 8 to 11 year olds and 11 to 14's. There's plenty of activity with games and crafts. An important part of the weekend is the Christian teaching. The weekend gives time to look at the Christian faith more deeply than on a normal meeting evening. Weekend CampsThe same age groups enjoy weekend camps at Danbury Youth Ground. Staff cook for the younger ones but the 11+ have to look after themselves. There's plenty of space for our own games. Softball is popular and all ages enjoy "Manhunt" as they chase each other through the woods. The site provides more advanced activities such as Archery, Assault Course and Climbing Wall. The spiritual side is not overlooked and the weekend will include times exploring the Christian Faith. Camp at SwanageFor many, Annual Camp is the highlight of the year. This is arranged for members of the GB Seniors, BB Company Section and AMICUS. The Companies are members of the Basildon and District Camping Group. The group owns most of the equipment needed for a camp (only the large marquees are hired) and sets up a site at Swanage. The Group use this for one week during the summer and lets it out to other groups for the rest of the summer. This ensures that everything is to the high standard we require and produces some income to help keep down the cost of our own camp. Belle Vue YouthThe Companies also join with other Belle Vue organisations particularly Sunday School. Together we have have arranged Christmas parties and Crafts mornings. With such a large number of children we have sometimes been able to call on more professional youth workers to lead a day of entertainment and learning.
