The
Girls' Brigade
The Girls' Brigade (GB) is an international Christian Youth
Organisation founded in 1893.
There is one GB organisation for the England & Wales. Other
countries have their own Girl's Brigades. See here for links to
GB
sites around the world.
Girl' Brigade Locally
The GB Companies in a local area together form a District which sees
that GB regulations are met with leader appointments, provides
training and organises events for Girls. We are part of the 1st
Southend District.
Girl's Brigade Company
The local unit, usually part of a Church is called the "Company". A
typical Company caters for Girls from the age of five or six to
eighteen in three or four age groups.
Our Company does not have Brigaders (aged fifteen to eighteen) -
older girls are encouraged to join the AMICUS section of Boys'
Brigade.
The GB uniform is a polo shirt (red for Explorers and white for
Juniors and Seniors) and a nvay blue sweatshirt for all sections.
GB Award Scheme
Girls can earn badges in the award scheme. The scheme includes a
wide range of activities in the following areas
- Spiritual
- Physical
- Educational
- Social
Assessment is in terms of effort and improvement rather than set
standards.
